Progress Report #2

☁︎ poll result

it’s official! Tater’s full name is now “Tater Tottley!”

…this would be a good spot to include some cute art of him, but i’m sorry, things have just been too hectic to make something… please forgive me.

☁︎ What I did (TDLR)

  • finalized and posted the survey results report; if you’d like to know details about what features are going to be on the site and how i interpreted your feedback, go check it out!
  • started programming the DNI toggle feature in a staging site.
  • started a new poll to detmine whether crowdfunding would be a viable option in the future for funding a better server with faster loading times. please vote on the home page!
  • started on UI design for the final version of the site.
  • started making a list of what lessons people want to be in the e-learning (daycare) feature. please comment and let me know what your vision for it is!
  • made a complete overhaul of the old coloring game, and added new pages, so please play it and tag me in whatever you make! if you can’t see the new pages, clear your browser’s cache to get the most recent version of the site.

☁︎ the details

i had to catch up with the crazy number of responses to the interest survey and finalize the results report before it got out of control! the report is now available to view at /survey-results. i’m still monitoring the results and making note of them for my planning, but since i had to draw a line somewhere for the report, it only uses the first 450 responses. feel free to comment any questions you have about it over there.

actually, despite my stressing a little over getting the dni feature set up, it’s proving very easy to put together. currently, the biggest issue with the site is the extremely slow loading times, but it’s probably because chuchuu is currently using some really cheap shared hosting… there’s no way the site would be able to handle the number of users i’m now expecting without crashing, so by the time it opens i’d like to switch to a high quality private server. i may open up some kind of donations or gofundme down the line to fund that, among other features. but would anyone be willing to donate to something like that? i created a poll on the homepage, so let me know your thoughts.

after i get the dni feature sorted (which i cheated to the top of my priority list because i was concerned about it), i’ll get started on the popular vote features. the top of the list is daycare, so i’d like to know more about what kind of lessons everyone wants to see. drawing tutorials? arts and crafts? media literacy? life skills? car mechanics? rocket science? let me know in the comments what you’d like!

i’m making some pen-and-paper sketches of what i want the final ui of the site to look like! i think the cute, colorful, rounded theme i’m using now is great, but i want to lean more into the toy train theme as well, so i’m trying out using more train related things in the menus and structure, like train cars and tracks. hopefully i can strike a good balance between what i have now and the intended theme.

the old coloring game was super broken… so i went ahead and just built a new one. well, it’s technically a heavily modded version of a game that was originally developed by codethislab. someone let me know that the new game wasn’t playing on opera browsers, so i went ahead and got that patched, too. if it still just displays a black screen on your browser or you can’t see the new pages, you’ll need to clear your browser’s cache to get the most recent version of the site. i’ve been super behind on updating the pages, but this week i went ahead and put in some more wintery december pages, so please enjoy!

☁︎ looking forward

it’s not looking like there will be a problem with finishing the dni feature, but maybe i just completely jinxed it. please wish me luck! after that, i’ll focus on two main things: deciding on topics for the daycare feature, and finalizing the theme and ui of the site. once i think the site is cute enough, i’ll see about putting up a nonfunctional demo site that everyone can browse to see how chuchuu will look and feel to use once it’s complete!

☁︎ How I’m doing

things have been hectic, so i was quiet for a long time… but the overwhelming support you guys suddenly showed in the past week gave me a lot of energy to continue working on this project. thank you guys for being so amazing and excited. progress might still be slow because of other things i have going on, but i’m still doing as much as i can so thanks for bearing with me! things are now settling down a bit with my move completed, so going into the new year, things may start speeding up gradually.

  1. Arts and crafts were my favorite thing when I was a kid so an into to different types? A basic craft working with decoupage or clay or crochet, or paper based crafts for smaller littles.

Or basically anything you might find in a cub scouts/girl scouts manual like cooking or doing a family tree or playing a sport/game.

Please take your time, okay? Take as many breaks as you need and remember to take care of yourself! <3

  4. I had a little idea relating to the daycare. After completing a lesson you could earn like a sticker or a coin or something, and then your profile could have a little sticker book to show them! (I’m not sure how hard this would be to add, it would probably be a much later implementation lol)

  5. I feel like it would be impossible to write all of the daycare posts alone. You should totally make an inbox for users to send – their – lessons. Maybe other users can even vote for which lesson they like more and which one of them gets to stay on the main page.

  6. no, really, please feel free to reply to this with what kind of lessons you were hoping for in the daycare feature! it would really help me out!

    1. things related to hygiene like brushing teeth and bathing would probably be helpful for disabled lil ones who struggle with those kinda things or ones with sensory issues related to them!!! (like me and my horrible experiences with teeth brushing ;w;)

    2. Ronnie Quinn

Maybe do a list of activities that little ones can do during quiet time if they have that on their routine

    3. You should add some small snack and fancy ‘littles’ drinks tutorials

    4. Life skills would definitely help us, given that we were never taught as a biokid. Best of luck with the site!
